Football
The tournament is played at the former National Stadium of Poland.
The Dziesieciolecia Stadium (10th Anniversary Stadium) was built
in 1955 to create an "Olympic Stadium for the city of Warsaw".
The stadium was mainly built out of the rubble of the 1944 Warsaw
Uprising, it has a capacity of 71.000, but often housed more than
100 000 spectators. Due to its poor condition the stadium was abandoned
in 1983, and now the area around the stadium is home to one of
the largest flea markets in Europe.
The terraces may have been abandoned
but they remain a great backdrop to a unique tournament, where
you can share the changing rooms
and pitch once used by such greats as Moore, Beckenbauer and Pele,
not to mention the fine Polish teams of the 70’s that included
players of the quality of Deyna, Lato and Boniek.
Matches are 2
x 25 minutes and all teams play a minimum of 3 games. It is anticipated
that 4-6 teams will participate in the event.
Teams are expected from England and Poland with teams also representing
ex-pat communities in Warsaw.
Location
Warsaw, the capital city of Poland is a busy city of 2 million
people. The city has great nightlife, with bars, clubs and restaurants
open until the early hours. Visit the Old Town, The Royal Palace,
The Monument of the Warsaw Uprising, and the former Ghetto area.
Social
Programme
We use a pub in the centre of Warsaw as the Tournament H.Q. for
the weekend. Here we hold an informal Welcome drink and the Trophy
Presentations.
Our Opinion
What better way to prepare for the new season than to play in a
tournament in a 71,000 capacity stadium in one of Europe’s
up and coming cities?
